We have always received support from the local community for which we are very grateful. Groups such as the Fron Ladies, Eirwen Jones and Cantorion Collen and many more have put on fund raising events on our behalf from the very beginning. We recently received £265.00 from the Singing Festival held at the Llangollen Methodist Church during Eisteddfod week 2010 and Albert Dunlop, the Vice-Captain of the Vale of Llangollen Golf Club, raised £264.00 from members at his Vice-Captain’s competition day. Richard Davies, a local farmer, did a sponsored walk last year and raised £400.00. Mrs Chris McCallum, who used to live in New Brighton, Minera, and enjoyed watching the boats on the canal, remembered the Trust in her will and we were pleased to meet her sons and their wives who came to scatter her ashes and present us with a cheque for over £4,500. These are just examples of the generosity of local people.

Dave Mason donates £1,000 to the Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust
One of our trustees, Dave Mason, very generously made a donation of £1,000 to the Trust, as part of his Charity Fund when he was President of the Rotary Club of Wrexham, earlier this year. Dave is also one of our volunteer skippers and is pictured (on the right) presenting the cheque for £1,000 to the chairman, Colin Burman, at the Trust’s office in the Old Armoury after our committee meeting in November 2011.
Richard Jones raises £560.00 for the Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust riding in the Etape Cymru.
Richard Jones rode in only the second fully-closed road cycle event challenge in the UK on 9th October 2011. The event followed a 100-mile (161 km) route through Wrexham and Denbighshire, and attracted 1600 entries. Riders came from all over the UK, as well as southern Ireland and Spain. The event started and finished in Wrexham, with riders climbing 6,000 feet en-route, including the 3.8-mile climb up the Horseshoe Pass, which gains 1,040 feet in height and reaches gradients of up to 20%. The chairman, Colin Burman, thanks Richard for choosing the Canal Boat Trust as the beneficiary of his fund-raising ride.
Captains Charity Golf Day
Following the Captains’ Charity Golf Day at the Vale of Llangollen Golf Club on July 2nd, the Trust was delighted to receive a cheque for £2,693.74. The other charity to benefit from the Charity Day was Hope House, Oswestry. Pictured are Kath Delany, Lady Captain, Albert Dunlop, Captain, and Trustees, Mary Burman, Gill Thomas and Colin Burman. Many thanks to all who took part and supported this event.
We were delighted that once again Eirwen Jones organised a Christmas concert for the Trust. As usual it was held at the English Methodist Church, Princess Street, Llangollen. It featured the Cantorion Collen Singers conducted by Eirwen and guest soloists. The concert was supported by Barclays and all monies raised went towards the refit of Glas y Dorlan.
